Gurjapneet Singh has had an eventful time over the last year. He made his First Class debut, bagged his first IPL contract (Chennai Super Kings) and got selected for his maiden Duleep Trophy.
Now, the 26-year-old left-arm pacer has taken another step in his career after being named in the India-A squad for the one-day series against Australia-A.
“It is a very proud moment for me to be selected for India-A. It gives me a great opportunity to make a good impression and I want to do my best,” said Gurjapneet, who took 10 wickets for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy that concluded on Monday.
The pacer from Ambala, who moved to Tamil Nadu back in 2017 to pursue his cricket, was pleased with how the last 12 months have been.
“On my Ranji debut, I took six wickets (vs Saurashtra), and it gave me confidence that I could play at this level. I learnt a lot from the coaches and seniors, which helped me keep improving and get better every day.”
However, in between, the tall pacer also had to deal with a setback due to a groin injury that kept him out of action for nearly six months, including the IPL. “I just kept working hard, trying to get better every day and doing the rehab process,” he added.
When asked if he expected such a rapid rise, Gurjapneet said: “I was not overthinking. Whenever I got a chance, I was trying to give 100%. I am preparing myself to be ready for every situation and be there in the game all the time”.
