As a reviewer, I test a lot of products, including apps. During this process, sometimes I discover some hidden gems that surprise me with their capabilities. One such example I discovered recently is a simple extension that removes paywalls for any website. It is so seamless that it works for almost any site, and you don’t even need to switch tabs. While testing it, I also discovered the Quetta browser with extension support.
Browsers with extension support aren’t new. Like every app, my expectations were low for this app at first, since there are plenty of browsers that already exist in the market. My personal pick is Kiwi; however, the browser was discontinued recently. But don’t worry, you can replace it with Quetta, and I feel it’s even better than Kiwi in many ways. Now, let’s dive deep and understand why the Quetta browser is the best option and its potential to replace your smartphone’s existing browser.
Wide Extensions Support
Extension support is easily one of the most underrated features in browsers. It can entirely transform your browsing experience by adding additional functionalities to the browser, whether it’s blocking ads or removing paywalls or even adding handy features that significantly enhance your browsing experience.
Quetta browser supports most of the extensions without any issues. All the popular extensions that I use on the Chrome browser on desktop are compatible with Quetta without any issues. It includes an ad-blocker extension, Grammarly for correcting spelling mistakes, paywall removers to remove the paywall of any website, a VPN to unblock sites and for a more private connection and more.
I even tested installing other extensions like price trackers, and fortunately, even though they are primarily designed for desktop, they work with the Quetta browser without any issues.
However, similar to other browsers with extension support, not everything is compatible. There are still extensions that aren’t compatible, primarily because they aren’t built for the desktop. And a few extensions might only support desktop mode, which means they might not be optimized for mobile, especially extensions with a dedicated interface that you need to interact with.
Apart from this minor concern, there aren’t issues with extension support. You can easily manage them, just like on a desktop; you can also import and add extensions manually, which works without any issues.
Clean Interface
Another standout feature of the Quetta browser is its clean and minimal user interface. Along with the extension support, this is one of the primary reasons that made me spend more time on this browser than my default Google Chrome on mobile.
I have used several browsers with extension support in the past; however, almost all except Kiwi have unwanted recommendations and even some cluttered experiences when compared to mainstream browsers like Google Chrome. However, with Quetta, its interface is very minimal, even better than Chrome, without unwanted recommendations.
Most browsers’ home screens are filled with recommendations; however, with Quetta, it only comes with a simple input search bar, even without your commonly visited sites, which you can add if you want. This interface makes it extremely easy to use and non-distracting. And this continues to the entire browser, from settings to tab management and all, which only has the necessary features without complicating the interface.
Adblocker and Private by Default
Unlike most of the browsers with extension support, Quetta is private by default, giving you all the necessary features for secure browsing. The most useful feature is the support for a native adblocker, which blocks all the unwanted ads by default, and it works great without any issues. I have tested sites with different ad formats, including intrusive popups that some ad blockers failed to detect, and Quetta surprisingly does this well. To even enhance your ad blocking, you can also install any adblocker extension like UBlock Origin or AdGuard to further strengthen your ad protection.
What sets Quetta browser apart from others is its business model. Unlike others which rely on ads or recommendations or deals to set default search engines, according to the FAQ, Quetta says it only depends on the pro subscription revenue (which isn’t yet available);. The downside is that you need to pay extra to enjoy all the features of the browser. Currently, you can enjoy it for free.
Decently Fast and Built on Chromium
Quetta browser uses the Chromium engine to power its browser, the same open-source engine used by other popular browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Brave browser.
Excluding unwanted elements makes the browser feel fast and fluid, but not lightweight. Chromium browsers are not lightweight by default, so you won’t get the same lightweight experience on less resource phones.
Save Videos Directly While You’re Playing
Another handy feature in the Quetta browser is the ability to download videos directly from the browser interface without relying on third-party tools; it currently supports X and even shows the download option for Instagram. It also doesn’t work for streaming platforms like YouTube, Amazon and other streaming services.
If the built-in download doesn’t work, you can also use external downloader tools to download the videos. You can directly share the link and start downloading. You can also organize downloads into a playlist and manage all your downloads in one place.
Limited to Android and iOS for Now
One of the biggest limitations of the Quetta browser is that it is currently available only for Android and iOS, with future availability of other platforms; however, there is no info about the launch time. However, the developers announced planning to bring it to other platforms soon.
Premium Version in the Future
Quetta browser is currently in the beta testing phase for Android. The company is planning to launch the stable version soon and may also introduce a premium version with additional benefits in the future for its survival.
I am not sure what benefits Quetta will offer for premium users or whether they may restrict some current features in the free version and put them behind a paywall, which is most unlikely, considering companies usually don’t do this because it may upset the existing users. I also don’t have a launch timeline for the pro version for now. I will update once I have that information.
Switching to the Quetta Browser Is Difficult
I also tried Comet browser, an AI browser from Perplexity, which makes it easy to onboard. With a simple sign-in, you can import all your Chrome data to Comet and start using the browser instantly without missing anything; however, currently, Quetta doesn’t offer this feature, so you have to manually set up and install everything. Because of this, I still go back to Chrome for all my tasks that require data. I hope Quetta adds the ability to import data from other browsers and reduces the friction of its use.
Quetta Browser Review: Clean Interface and Extensions in One
So overall, those are the best features and everything you should know about the Quetta browser. The biggest USP of Quetta is its extension support and clean interface, and private by default, making it one of the best options. Features like native image downloader, ad-free experience add extra benefits to using this browser. However, the browser is currently in beta and only available for Android and iOS. Also, because of its business model, the premium version of this browser in the future may come with limitations for some of its core features. For now, it is the best browser with extension support and also the browser that can become your primary browser on Android.
