Bengaluru Torpedoes put in a resolute performance to defeat Ahmedabad Defenders 10-15, 15-11, 15-13, 15-13 and reach the final of the Prime Volleyball League at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here on Friday.
The two teams started on an even footing, before Angamuthu Ramaswamy’s block on T.R. Sethu helped the Defenders win a super point and take the lead. The Torpedoes rode on Sethu’s super serve and Jalen Penrose’s cross-body attacks to level the proceedings.
Service pressure from Penrose coupled with P.V. Jishnu’s defensive work then put the Torpedoes in front. Joel Benjamin and Sandeep did well to completely shut down Battur Batsuuri. Despite a match point being saved, the Torpedoes held their nerve, with Joel’s spike completing the win.
Earlier, Mumbai Meteors defeated Goa Guardians 15-8, 15-8, 16-14 in the first semifinal.

Guardians, in their debut season, were on the back foot for most of the contest. While Nathaniel Dickinson and Rohit Yadav gave them a good start, their defence couldn’t handle Shubham Chaudhary and Amit Gulia’s attacks.
Despite Prince Malik’s efforts to counter-attack, smart play from Shubham and Karthik kept Meteors in control. Guardians did their best, even changing the formation by bringing in setter Aravind.
However, L.M. Manoj’s super serve went in vain after Prince overhit shot cost Guardians a super point. Vikram’s super point immediately gave Guardians slim hopes of a comeback but Karthik’s late block on Chirag sealed Meteors’ place in the title match.
The final will be held on Sunday.
