Daily direct flights between Agartala and Bagdogra in North Bengal officially started on Sunday, while air services connecting Agartala with Silchar in southern Assam is set to resume on Tuesday after nearly 30 years.
Officials from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) reported that the inaugural flight of Air India Express departed Agartala at 6.10pm and is scheduled to land in Bagdogra at 7.20pm.
The new route is expected to positively impact tourism and business opportunities in both Tripura and North Bengal. Traditionally, travellers from Tripura relied on trains to reach North Bengal and Sikkim, a journey covering around 1,200km and taking around 24 hours.
Meanwhile, IndiGo is set to introduce a flight connecting Agartala with Silchar starting Tuesday, operating twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays. This service had been discontinued in the mid-1990s.
With these new options, Agartala will now enjoy direct air links with 10 destinations across the country, including Kolkata, Delhi, Imphal, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Chennai.
