Esha lands bronze medal at shooting World Championships

Esha Singh claimed her maiden World Championship medal, winning the 25m Pistol bronze at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo on Friday.

The 20-year-old ended up with 30/50 shots to finish behind Korea’s Paris Olympic gold medallist Jiin Yang (40/50) and China’s Qianxun Yao, who added a silver to her growing tally with a fourth individual medal in the competition so far.

Esha started well and stayed within striking distance of the top spot for the first four series of five shots before a disastrous fifth and sixth series that saw her miss three shots each and trail the top two. Although she tried to fight back in the remaining rounds, the gap was too much.

Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker, meanwhile, finished a disappointing fifth, losing to France’s Mathilde Lamolle in the shoot-off. The third Indian in the event, Rahi Sarnobat, finished 54th in qualifying. The trio also missed out a team medal, finishing fourth.
