The player swap involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) was officially confirmed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday (November 15, 2025) morning.

As part of the multi-player trade, Jadeja and England allrounder Sam Curran will turn out in Royals’ pink for the 2026 season, while Samson has emerged as the marquee acquisition for CSK as it looks to reconfigure its squad ahead of the next cycle.

The Hindu had reported earlier this week that the Jadeja–Samson trade was virtually sealed. The formal announcement came hours before the deadline for submitting retentions ahead of next month’s auction.

Samson — who has been a Royals mainstay since his debut in 2013 barring the two seasons when the franchise was suspended — had conveyed his desire to move on during pre-season discussions. Despite interest from three other teams, RR eventually accepted CSK’s offer involving Samson and Jadeja.

For Jadeja, who was one of the Royals’ breakout performers in the inaugural IPL seasons but has since become synonymous with CSK’s yellow, the shift will mark a striking change in colours. According to the IPL statement, Jadeja has taken a pay cut from ₹18 crore to ₹14 crore. It is understood that the Royals are also considering him as a potential captaincy option.

RR had initially sought Dewald Brevis along with Jadeja in exchange for Samson, but eventually settled on Curran’s all-ound package as part of the final arrangement.

Meanwhile, the IPL also confirmed two other significant moves: Mohammed Shami’s transfer from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Lucknow Super Giants, and Arjun Tendulkar being acquired by LSG from Mumbai Indians.

The full list of retained players ahead of the December 16 auction in Abu Dhabi will be announced at 5 p.m. on Saturday (November 15, 2025).

Trading Jadeja toughest decision for CSK, says Viswanathan

Commenting on the trade, Chennai Super Kings Managing Director, K.S. Viswanathan, said, “A transition in a team’s journey is never easy. Trading out a player like Ravindra Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the franchise for more than a decade, and Sam Curran was one of the toughest decisions we have taken in the team’s history.”

“The decision was taken with mutual understanding with both Jadeja and Curran. We are deeply grateful for Jadeja’s extraordinary contributions and the legacy he leaves behind. We wish both Jadeja and Curran the best for the future.

“We also welcome Sanju Samson, whose skill set and achievements complement our ambitions. This decision has been made with great thought, respect, and a long-term vision,” he added.
