IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has announced the commencement of flight operations from the newly inaugurated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), beginning 25 December 2025. The airline will operate direct services to ten key domestic destinations in the first phase, marking a significant step in strengthening its presence in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The initial network will link Navi Mumbai to Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa (Mopa), Jaipur, Nagpur, Cochin and Mangalore. IndiGo will progressively scale up operations by adding new routes from NMIA to other Indian cities in a phased manner, aligning with the airport’s ramp-up schedule and passenger demand.
The launch positions IndiGo as one of the first carriers to operate from NMIA, reaffirming its commitment to improving accessibility and convenience for travellers in one of India’s most critical aviation markets. With this expansion, IndiGo aims to decongest Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and distribute passenger traffic more evenly across the Mumbai airspace.
Navi Mumbai International Airport, developed to complement the existing airport infrastructure in the region, is a key component of India’s aviation growth strategy. Built to handle 60 million passengers annually in its final phase, NMIA’s strategic location on the Mumbai-Pune corridor is expected to catalyse regional economic activity and strengthen air connectivity in western India.
The facility’s advanced infrastructure, including multi-modal transport integration, modern passenger terminals and cargo-handling capacity, will enable airlines such as IndiGo to enhance operational efficiency. As part of its long-term strategy, IndiGo plans to establish a robust operational base at NMIA, integrating the airport into its domestic and potential international networks.
A spokesperson from IndiGo said, “The launch of our services from Navi Mumbai International Airport marks a key milestone in our continued effort to enhance connectivity and customer convenience. As India’s aviation sector enters a new growth phase, NMIA will play a transformative role in supporting this momentum. We are proud to be among the first airlines to begin operations from this world-class facility.”
The Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed by the Adani Airport Holdings Limited in partnership with the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO). The project is designed to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport and accommodate the surging demand from both business and leisure travellers in the region.
IndiGo currently operates over 2,000 daily flights, serving 95 domestic and 30 international destinations. The launch of operations from NMIA aligns with the airline’s broader growth strategy to deepen its domestic footprint while enhancing customer experience through greater network accessibility.
With NMIA expected to become a critical aviation hub upon completion of its first phase, IndiGo’s early move positions it advantageously to capture the growing traffic volumes from the Mumbai region. The addition of ten routes from Navi Mumbai underlines the carrier’s continued focus on scale, efficiency and connectivity within India’s fast-evolving aviation landscape.
