Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has made a powerful projection for India’s future, declaring on Saturday that the nation is destined to become the world’s number one economy by 2047, the centenary of its independence. Addressing the 44th convocation of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) in Puttaparthi, Naidu urged the graduating students to actively contribute to this national ambition, specifically calling upon Telugu people to “lead the nation” among Indians by that time.

Naidu’s bold assertion aligns with the national vision of “Viksit Bharat @ 2047″, a goal championed by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. Current economic projections from various international and domestic institutions generally agree that India is on track to become the third-largest economy globally by 2030 and a high-income nation by 2047, with GDP projections ranging from $30 trillion to $35 trillion by that year. Naidu’s statement goes a step further by confidently claiming the number one spot, stressing that the “21st century belongs to India” and that “nobody can defeat it”.

The chief minister linked this grand national goal directly to technological advancement and human capital, detailing his state’s strategy to contribute to India’s rise. He highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s focus on future-centric sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI), data centres, quantum computing, space, aerospace, drones, and semiconductors. He revealed local initiatives like the “One Family, One Entrepreneur” concept and the push to make the Rayalaseema region a hub for high-technology development, underlining the importance of innovation and a skilled workforce.

In a show of political and ideological alignment, Naidu also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating he is the “right leader in the right place at the right time” amid a perceived “leadership crisis in all countries”. By connecting the state’s focus on cutting-edge technology with the national economic vision, Naidu sought to inspire the young graduates to harness their education, embodying the institute’s guiding principle of “love all, serve all, help ever, hurt never”, to transform India’s destiny.
