In a major bureaucratic reshuffle announced by the Centre on Monday, senior IAS officer Gyanesh Bharti has been appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner. Meanwhile, Hirdesh Kumar, another senior officer from the same cadre, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NATGRID under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Gyanesh Bharti is a 1998-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. He is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
According to the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Bharti will take over as Deputy Election Commissioner in the rank and pay of an Additional Secretary to the Government of India.
Hirdesh Kumar, a 1999-batch IAS officer from the same AGMUT cadre, has been chosen to lead the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) as CEO. NATGRID is an important intelligence and data-sharing organisation under the Home Ministry.
The reshuffle included several other senior-level appointments. A. Anbarasu has been appointed as Director General (Acquisition) in the Defence Ministry, while Sanjay Rastogi will now serve as Director General of the National Archives of India.
Diwakar Nath Misra, a 2000-batch officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Revenue under the Finance Ministry.
Other key changes include Lav Aggarwal becoming Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, and Sunil Kumar Barnwal being named CEO of the National Health Authority.
The Centre also named Akash Tripathi as Managing Director of the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd, and IPS officer Akhil Kumar as CEO of Digital India Corporation.
