India slipped to 10/2 at lunch, effectively three wickets down, chasing 124 against South Africa on the third day of the first Test in Kolkata on Sunday (November 16, 2025).
With skipper Shubman Gill unavailable for the remainder of the Test due to a neck injury, India lost their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (0) and KL Rahul (1) in early exchanges with the plucky Proteas side.
Both the batters were dismissed by lanky South African pacer Marco Jansen, as India took lunch with No 3 Washington Sundar (5 not out) and Dhruv Jurel (4 not out) at the crease.

Mohammed Siraj finished off the South African tail in style by taking two quick wickets towards the end and India were set a target of 124, in Kolkata on November 16, 2025.

Earlier, South Africa were bundled out for 153 in the second innings to set a target of 124 for India to chase.
Starting the day on 93/7, South African captain Temba Bavuma and Corbin Bosch continued their fight and added 42 runs in the morning to frustrate the Indian bowling.
After Bosch (25) was dismissed by a beauty from Jasprit Bumrah (1 for 24), it was curtains for the South Africa tailenders. In the midst of ruins, South African captain Temba Bavuma (55 not out) completed his well-deserved half-century. South Africa were finally bundled out for 153.
Ravindra Jadeja (4 for 50), Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 30) and Axar Patel (1 for 36) were the main wicket takers. Mohammed Siraj (2 for 2) completed the formalities for India with a lethal spell of just overs.
India are without their regular skipper Shubman Gill who was declared ruled out of the remainder of the Kolkata Test due to a neck injury he suffered on the second day’s play here at the Eden Gardens.
