Stephen Lee, James Wattana, Rory McLeod and Pankaj Advani are some of the big names who will compete in the Cue Sports Premier League (CSPL) which commences at the Bowring Institute here on October 2.

The second season of the CSPL, with Embassy Group as the title sponsor and co-sponsor Snooker Alley, marks the introduction of international players.

The tournament will feature eight teams. Each team will consist of three marquee players (one international and two players), two State-level players and four club-level players.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, multiple-time World champion Advani hailed the spectator friendly innovations which will be used in the league. “The timed format encourages quicker shots and quicker frames. The foul and miss rule has also been discarded,” Advani said.

Advani was happy to see the inclusion of Lee and other international stars in the field. The 50-year-old Englishman Lee is hailed for his fluent “Rolls Royce” cue action, which allows for significant action on the cue ball.

Thailand’s Wattana achieved a career-high world ranking of three in the mid 1990s.

Apart from Advani, Aditya Mehta and Sourav Kothari are among the popular Indian names.

Matches will be broadcast live on the Club Liv app.
