Four major rain interruptions. Three changes to India’s line-up. Two left-arm spinners coming good and one major injury scare for India were the highlights of the final league match of the Women’s World Cup at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday (October 26, 2025).
Ultimately, rain emerged as the winner. Bangladesh finished its rain-curtailed essay of 27 overs for 119 for nine, thus setting India a revised target of 126 runs. When the game was stopped at 10.05 pm – and the match called off 15 minutes later – an on-song Smriti Mandhana and her makeshift opening partner Amanjot Kaur had helped India cruise to 57 for no loss inside nine overs.
Amanjot was forced to partner Smriti after Pratika Rawal twisted her knee and ankle while chasing a ball on the wet outfield in the 21st over, giving the Indian camp an injury scare ahead of Thursday’s semifinal clash against Australia.
The result meant India finished fourth and Bangladesh seventh.
The stop-start day began with the toss delayed by 35 minutes, followed by another downpour soon after. When the match finally began as a 43-over contest two hours behind schedule, Renuka Thakur dismissed Sumaiya Akter in the opening over, while offie Deepti Sharma, operating from the other end, chipped in with a breakthrough in her fifth over.
Rain returned in the 13th over, forcing a 135-minute delay and a further reduction of overs. From 39 for two, Bangladesh relied on skipper Nigar Sultana to rebuild, but a sharp piece of fielding from Radha – a direct hit from point catching the latter short of her crease – broke the resistance.
Radha, in her maiden outing of the tournament, impressed by emerging as the highest wicket-taker, while Shree Charani scalped two.
Earlier, India made three changes – Radha replaced Sneh Rana, Kranti Gaud made way for Amanjot, and Uma Chetry made her ODI debut in place of Richa Ghosh.
The scores: Bangladesh 119/9 in 27 overs (Sharmin Akhter 36, Shree Charani 2/23, Radha Yadav 3/30) vs. India 57/0 in 8.4 overs (Smriti Mandhana 34 n.o.).
Toss: India.
No Result.
Semifinal line-up: Oct.29 England vs. South Africa, Guwahati; Oct. 30 Australia vs. India, Navi Mumbai.
