OxygenOS 16 is here after a worthy wait, and, frankly, it’s the best UI experience from a visual standpoint. The animations are smoother than silk, the visual changes are fantastic, and the updated design language, although even more reminiscent of iOS, is still a work of art. OnePlus revamped its lock screen customization in OxygenOS 15, and it’s taken a notch up in OxygenOS 16, now supporting widgets, new clock designs, custom text, and, best of all, live wallpapers (or motion wallpapers, as OnePlus calls them).
OxygenOS’ lock screen customization, or Flux Themes, as OnePlus likes to call it, particularly benefited from the introduction of motion wallpapers. That’s because a motion wallpaper enables an even more seamless transition between the always-on display, lock screen, and the home screen. It’s a visual treat, to say the least. And, of course, you can set custom motion wallpapers, too, making it more customizable than you can think of. Which OnePlus Devices Support Live Wallpapers?
The feature to set live wallpapers (or motion wallpapers) as your lock screen or homescreen is exclusive to devices running OxygenOS 16. The stable version of OxygenOS 16 is now rolling out to OnePlus’ flagship devices—the OnePlus 13 and 13s. Furthermore, alongside the OnePlus 13R and other relatively new devices, such as the OnePlus 12, OnePlus Open, and the OnePlus 12R, are currently in the open beta testing phase for OxygenOS 16. Provided they have been updated to OxygenOS 16, all of the mentioned devices support motion wallpapers. Below is the OxygenOS 16 roadmap for other OnePlus devices.
How to Set Motion Wallpapers on Your Device?
Setting a motion wallpaper on your OnePlus device is as easy as it gets. Follow the steps below to do so:
- Open your device’s Settings.
- Enter the Home screen, Lock screen & style settings page.
- Click on the All Flux Themes option.
- Choose the theme you like and click on it. Every theme supports motion wallpapers, so feel free to choose your preferred clock or text style from the vast collection.
- Tap the Wallpaper icon in the bottom-left corner of the wallpaper setup page.
- OxygenOS 16 comes with two motion wallpapers by default. If you wish to select a custom wallpaper, select Choose from album.
- Swipe left to navigate to the Albums section, and select the Videos folder.
- Select the video you prefer and wait for your device to import it.
- Adjust the video’s timeframe and ensure the best 6 seconds of the motion wallpaper are included in the final selection. Click on Resume to proceed.
- After the video is processed, you can adjust the wallpaper’s framing as per your preference. We also suggest enabling the Depth option for suitable wallpapers for an even more immersive effect.
- You can also play around with the clock’s style, font, and positioning, and set lock-screen widgets and shortcuts. Similarly, you can choose to keep the same wallpaper on your home screen as your lock screen, or set an entirely different motion wallpaper. Furthermore, the icon pack and color theming can also be edited.
- Finally, click on Apply to set it as the wallpaper.
OxygenOS 16 also supports setting live photos as motion wallpapers on your lock screen and home screen, making it even more personalized. A live photo can be selected under the Photos section in the 7th step of the above procedure.
Best Live Wallpapers for OnePlus Devices
Vegeta
If you are a fan of the Dragon Ball anime series, you certainly need no introduction to Vegeta, the insanely popular mortal warrior. FAQs about OxygenOS Live Wallpapers
1. Will these live wallpapers drain more battery?
Fundamentally, every animated wallpaper of any kind will surely drain more battery compared to a static one, so OxygenOS 16’s motion wallpapers aren’t any different in this regard. However, since the wallpaper is not entirely live and only activates for a brief period when you unlock your phone, the increased battery consumption is negligible. It also doesn’t animate in the background, making it even more efficient.
2. Why is the animation duration capped to a few seconds?
As mentioned above, the reduced animation duration is primarily to preserve your phone’s precious battery life. Secondly, live wallpapers put a toll on the phone’s performance and, by extension, its thermals, both of which are undesirable. It will be even more evident when OxygenOS 16 is rolled out to budget or older devices, which is why the animation duration is capped at 6 seconds.
3. What is the recommended resolution of motion wallpapers?
Since not many dedicated motion wallpapers are available for OxygenOS 16 yet, you will have to resort to desktop live wallpapers instead and crop them as per your preference. To ensure the end quality remains intact, we strongly recommend downloading the highest possible resolution of the motion wallpapers so the end quality isn’t compromised after cropping. In short, try downloading the 4K versions of wallpapers, especially if your phone supports 1,440p (QHD) resolution; otherwise, 1,080p (FHD) should be fine for most other devices.
4. When will my OnePlus device receive support for live wallpapers?
Since support for motion wallpapers is exclusive to devices running OxygenOS 16, the answer depends solely on when your phone gets the update. The feature is already available on devices running the stable or closed beta versions of OxygenOS 16, including the OnePlus 13, OnePlus 13s, OnePlus 12, and more. The rollout schedule for other devices is shown in the image attached below. If your device isn’t among them, your device won’t support motion wallpapers, unfortunately.

Since the software codebase is essentially the same, the motion wallpapers showcased above will work just fine on Oppo and realme phones, too. The only requirement is that your Oppo or realme device be running the latest software version: ColorOS 16 or realme UI 7, respectively.
