IndiGo has inaugurated its direct flight service between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, and Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, becoming the carrier’s second long-haul route after Manchester. This addition comes as part of IndiGo’s broader international strategy, aimed at expanding connectivity between India and major global aviation hubs.
The new thrice-weekly service will be operated using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft damp leased from Norse Atlantic Airways. These wide-body planes are designed to enhance passenger experience with improved legroom and inflight entertainment, including curated content and hot meals in collaboration with Indian brands. The launch builds on IndiGo’s recent move to strengthen its European network while offering travellers from India better access to destinations across Europe, North America and Canada.
Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is among Europe’s busiest, serving as a vital transit point for global air traffic. With this route, IndiGo aims to offer more efficient travel options for business, leisure and student travellers. The development is also expected to reinforce diplomatic and economic ties between India and the Netherlands.
Commenting on the launch, Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said, “Spreading our wings further in Europe, we are delighted to launch our Mumbai–Amsterdam flights, connecting India to the world. We are committed to delivering a seamless and enhanced experience to our customers at great value, promoting direct traffic between India and Europe. This route will not only enhance connectivity for leisure, business, and student travellers, but also deepen the thriving partnership between India and the Netherlands—culturally, economically, and diplomatically.”
IndiGo began its long-haul operations with flights to Bangkok and plans to strengthen its wide-body fleet further. Airbus A321XLR aircraft are expected to join the fleet later this year, followed by Airbus A350-900s from 2027, facilitating deeper expansion into European and Asian markets.
