HYDERABAD: She had this fascination and intrigue about the mortician’s job. The way they dress up and beautify corpses and prepare them for funerals. Being the insatiable writer that she is, it was inevitable that the mortician became part of the story premise for Supriya Parulekar, author of Into The Woods.
The novel, Supriya’s seventh, was launched in an online event organized by HydRAW (Hyderabad Readers and Writers) on the 30th of October and is receiving fine accolades and endorsements.
Supriya Parulekar grew up in Mumbai in a joint family. She inherited the legacy of storytelling from her father. Supriya’s quest for the unknown and beyond gives birth to dark and thrilling elements which are found in her work. She writes in multiple genres, developed content for OTT, scripted short films and feature-length movie. Her short film Raaya received a special mention from the jury at Delhi Film Festival.
Into the Woods was first written for a web series. The series was approved and liked by the director and producer, but due to COVID and outdoor production issues, it did not take off.
Supriya decided the next best thing was to release the story as two novels: one for international segment and second for domestic readers. With the version for the Indian readers released and available on Amazon and Flipkart, the international version is set for a release in Nov 2021. The international version is titled as “The Black Raven” and both the versions are published by Bare Thoughts Lit (an imprint of Eka Publishers).
In the launch, Mr. Vijay Saini, popular director of TV shows who has directed the shows with the highest TRP like, Bade Achhe Lagthe hain, Pavitra Rishtha, Kasamse, said, “The story was so captivating that stopped my day’s filming schedule the entire day to listen to Supriya’s story narration.”
Supriya is an eternal traveller herself and that is reflected in her characters too, who are always on the quest for something.
Into The Woods has been endorsed by Siddhartha Kak, who says, “Into The Woods is not only the exploration of the dark woods but also the exploration of occult, the unknown. Her fertile imagination has created an intriguing world – 1) Women turn up dead in Baro, but beautiful. 2) The folklore haunting the town comes alive.”
Supriya likes to learn a new language besides reading, travelling and listening to Music. Her upcoming book, Hide and Seek, on marital drama is scheduled to release in January 2022. She is also working on a short film that will be released soon.
