New Delhi: South Korean tech major Samsung registered strong double-digit growth in March in India, courtesy of the success of the flagship Galaxy S22 series and the uptake of the Galaxy A line. In the January-March quarter, Samsung’s smartphone business registered nine per cent value growth over the same period last year. Samsung grabbed 22 per cent market share by volume, and 27 per cent share by revenue, according to Counterpoint Research’s Monthly India Smartphone Tracker.
“At Samsung, customers are at the heart of everything we do. Our recent launches – the flagship Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy A series – have witnessed strong demand from consumers, making March a record month for us. The exceptional growth in the month of March points to a stronger double-digit growth for Samsung in the current April to June 2022 quarter. Our endeavour is to constantly listen to our customers’ feedback – and continue to deliver mobile experiences that empower us all to evolve,” Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President, MX Business, Samsung India, said in a statement.
Samsung’s Galaxy A series has been the highest in demand for the company last year and the mid-rangers accounted for more than 50 per cent of Samsung’s smartphone sales. This year, the Galaxy S22 series became the company’s best-selling flagship smartphone in the country within a month of its launch. After a record pre-booking, Samsung is looking to consolidate its market leadership in the premium segment in India by H1, 2022, the handset maker noted.

Samsung Galaxy A series essentially includes devices in the mid-range, but some models also belong to the flagship entry-level bracket. The Galaxy A series also offers some features that Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series offers, but at a lower price point. “First thing is that we want to catch 40 per cent market share and be the No. 1 in Rs 20K to Rs 40K price segment. The Galaxy A series devices will play a very very important role in that,” Aditya Babbar, Senior Director and Head of Product Marketing, Samsung India, recently told ABP Live in an interview.
