How To Link Driving License With Aadhaar Without Visiting RTO: Step by Step Process – Trak.in

In a significant move towards simplifying citizen services, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched a new online facility that enables vehicle owners and driving license holders to update their mobile numbers and link Aadhaar without visiting the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The service is now live on parivahan.gov.in.

Covering RC and DL Updates

The facility is applicable for both vehicle Registration Certificates (RCs) and Driving Licenses (DLs). Once updated, all official notifications, alerts, and government updates will be sent directly to the verified mobile number. This not only enhances convenience but also ensures that communication between authorities and citizens is more reliable.

How the Process Works

The new Aadhaar-linked update system can be accessed via two sections on the portal:

  • Vahan – for vehicle-related services like RC updates.
  • Sarathi – for driving license-related services.

For RC Updates:

  1. Select the Vahan option and choose to update mobile number via Aadhaar.
  2. Enter details such as registration number, chassis number, engine number, registration validity, and date.
  3. Complete Aadhaar authentication, enter the security code, and submit.

For DL Updates:

  1. Scan the Sarathi QR code on the portal or navigate to the respective page.
  2. Enter driving license number, date of birth, state, and captcha code.
  3. Authenticate Aadhaar and click submit.

Benefits of the New System

The Ministry has been actively sending SMS reminders to vehicle owners and license holders to complete the process. By digitizing these updates, the government aims to:

  • Reduce unnecessary visits to RTO offices.
  • Enhance transparency in maintaining updated records.
  • Ensure faster delivery of alerts and services.

Moving Towards a Digital-First Future

The Aadhaar-linked update facility is part of the broader push for Digital India, where government services are increasingly moving online. By integrating Aadhaar authentication into routine services like RC and DL updates, the Ministry is ensuring security, transparency, and convenience for millions of citizens.
