Ojasvi Thakur led a sweep of air rifle medals for the host in the Junior World Cup at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Monday.

The 16-year-old Ojasvi, a trainee of Dronacharya awardee Suma Shirur at the Lakshya Club in Mumbai, beat the 14-year-old Hrudya Shri by 2.5 points for the gold.

Qualification topper, the 17-year-old Shambhavi Kshirsagar (632.0) who had won the gold in the Junior World Cup in Suhl by beating Ojasvi, earlier in the season, had to settle for the bronze.

In the junior men’s air rifle, Himanshu was a class act as he denied a double gold for Dmitrii Pimenov of Independent Neutral Athlete (AIN) with a one-point margin in a strong finish. Pimenov had bridged the gap to 0.5 point before the last shot, and Himanshu who had top scored in qualification with 633.7, delivered a 10.5 last shot to seal the gold in style.

In the 25-metre rapid fire pistol event, Mukesh Nelavalli was beaten to the gold by Aleksandr Kovalev of AIN 3-1 in the shoot-off after the two tied on 27 in the final. Mukesh had a two-point lead before the last series of five shots, but had just one hit which led to the tie.

India was firmly on top of the medals table with six gold, eight silver and six bronze. AIN has so far won four gold, two silver and two bronze.
