After two years of war in Gaza, a plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump has brought a ceasefire in the region and has facilitated the release of all the remaining hostages held by Hamas.

Mr. Trump’s 20-point peace proposal includes a list of Palestinian prisoners to be released by Israel and withdrawal of the Israeli Army in Gaza to new positions and the release of all hostages by Hamas, dead or alive, according to reports.

Nearly 1,200 people were killed when Hamas mounted a cross-border attack in Israel on October 7, 2023, and 251 people were taken hostage. While 48 people are still in captivity, only 20 of them are believed to be alive.
Israel’s ensuing offensive has killed more than 67,000 people and wounded nearly 1,70,000, according to the figures on Saturday (October 10, 2025).
