Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate 216 newly built, state-of-the-art flats for Gujarat MLAs in Gandhinagar on Bhaibij (Bhai Dooj), marking the Gujarati New Year with the launch of a Rs 247-crore housing project modeled on Delhi’s modern MP residences.

The old MLA residences in Gandhinagar’s Sector 17, were demolished to make way for the new project. The residences, modelled after the updated homes for MPs in Delhi, come equipped with modern amenities.

The Sector 21 project, proposed five years ago after the existing buildings from 1995 became dilapidated and lacked essential facilities, features 12 nine-storey towers covering around 28,000 square meters.

Each flat includes three bedrooms, a living room, an office, a reading room, a servant’s room, and a dining room. Public facilities include two gardens with seating areas, an auditorium, a community hall, a canteen, a modern health club, a children’s play area, a senior citizen park, an internet lounge, an indoor game zone, a yoga and aerobics deck, a jogging and walking track, and four entry/exit gates.

The project was approved in the 2021 budget following MLA requests. Officials said the new residences are now fully equipped with modern facilities.
