LOT Polish Airlines, a Star Alliance member, is strengthening its presence in Central Asia with the launch of direct flights from Warsaw to Almaty, Kazakhstan, commencing 31 May 2026. The Polish flag carrier will operate the new route four times a week — every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday — offering year-round connectivity with two-class Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. During the winter schedule, flights will operate three times weekly.
Following Astana, Almaty becomes LOT’s second destination in Kazakhstan, underlining the airline’s long-term expansion strategy in the region. The 6.5-hour overnight service will depart Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) at 22:40 hrs, arriving in Almaty at 08:00 hrs the next day. The return flight will depart Almaty at 09:20 hrs, ensuring convenient connections for passengers travelling between Europe and Asia.
“With the new air service and attractive feeder flights, we are setting a further accent in Central Asia,” said Robert Ludera, Registered Representative and Head of Network Planning at LOT Polish Airlines. “Almaty is an important economic centre in Kazakhstan, but also highly interesting from a tourist perspective and at the same time a gateway to the Silk Road.”
Situated at the foothills of the Transili Alatau Mountains, Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan with a population of around two million. Renowned for its cultural vibrancy and scenic landscapes, the city offers attractions such as the historic Green Bazaar and the newly opened Museum of Arts, showcasing contemporary works. The nearby Shymbulak resort, located at 2,200 metres, is recognised as one of Central Asia’s premier winter sports destinations. Other natural highlights include the Great Almaty Lake, Sharyn Gorge, and the Kolsai National Park.
With the addition of Almaty, LOT Polish Airlines continues to strengthen its network across Eurasia, providing enhanced travel options for business and leisure passengers while supporting growing trade and tourism links between Europe and Central Asia.
