If your right AirPod is not charging or refuses to play any sound, you’re not alone. It’s a common phenomenon that happens to tons of AirPods users. Sometimes the cause is minor, such as dust in the case or a slight glitch in connectivity. Other times, it can be a hardware problem, which Bluetooth earphones run into all the time.
Before trying any fixes, check if your AirPods case has enough charge. If the light on the case doesn’t turn on, plug it in for a bit. Put both AirPods back in, close the lid, and wait around 30 seconds. Then open the case near your iPhone to see the battery levels. If the right AirPod still shows no charge, remove it and place it back in properly.
Clean the AirPods and Case Properly
Sometimes, all your AirPods need is a quick cleanup. That’s because your AirPods charge through tiny metal pins inside the case, and even a thin layer of dirt can block the connection completely. Wipe both AirPods and the inside of the case using a soft cloth or a dry cotton swab. Never use anything sharp or metallic. For stubborn dirt, use a little rubbing alcohol on a tissue; just don’t overdo it.
Once your AirPods and case are clean, place both earbuds back inside and close the lid. Give it about 30 seconds before opening it again. Check the battery levels on your iPhone; both should be charging. Then play some sound to test if the right AirPod is back to normal.
Try a Quick Reset
Sometimes the issue isn’t the hardware but a small software glitch. To resolve the issue with your right AirPod not charging, navigate to your iPhone’s Bluetooth menu, select “Forget this device,” and then press and hold the button on the case until the LED blinks white. Once that’s done, reconnect your AirPods. Most users find that this clears up charging or connection problems instantly.
If the charging issue still persists, it is time to consult Apple Support. Normally, Apple replaces a defective earbud for free if your AirPods are still under warranty. Otherwise, they can tell you if a battery issue exists or suggest repair or replacement options.
