CHENNAI:

India and Argentina shared the honours (1-1) in the three practice matches at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here ahead of the FIH junior men’s hockey World Cup from November 28. The two drew the first match 1-1 while India won the second 5-3. Argentina won the third 2-1.

Though the practice matches were considered friendly ones, Argentina and India played fiercely.

Indian head coach P.R. Sreejesh said on Sunday: “We tried several formations and combinations, playing full-court pass and half-court press. Argentina is one of the teams that plays skilful hockey. But we played well. We need to sort out our short passes, long passes and aerial balls. We need to be prepared.”

Juan Ignacio Gilardi, Argentina head coach, was happy with his wards’ performance.

“We were a bit tired in the first match due to jet lag. The second was our worst. We need to get used to the pitch which is fast. Nevertheless, it was good match preparation.”
