In a groundbreaking move, the Navi Mumbai International Airport will become India’s first airport to offer water taxi services, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announced at a CIDCO review meeting.

Multi-Modal Connectivity in Focus
The new airport, scheduled to begin operations by April 2025, will boast:
- Water taxis as a faster, eco-friendly airport access option
- Seamless links via road, rail, metro, and now waterways
- Focus on convenience, accessibility, and parking infrastructure
The Chief Minister emphasized completing all transport connectivity projects on time to ensure smooth commuter experiences.
Water Taxis Made from Durable FRP
The planned water taxis will be constructed using Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (FRP):
- Strong yet lightweight material
- Economical and easy to maintain
- Designed for speed and efficiency across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region
These taxis are expected to ease road congestion by offering a quicker alternative route to the airport.
CIDCO Pushes for Timely Completion
CIDCO has been instructed to:
- Ensure high-quality housing development around the airport
- Set strict timelines for all infrastructure projects
- Deliver affordable housing for citizens in nearby areas
Game-Changer for Mumbai’s Traffic Woes
With Mumbai’s roads often clogged, the water taxi initiative could be a game-changer, transforming the way people access the airport and boosting regional connectivity. The success of this project may well pave the way for similar models in other metro cities.
The countdown to India’s most connected and commuter-friendly airport has officially begun.
