Air travellers departing from Pune Airport can now breathe easy when it comes to meal prices. The airport has inaugurated the Udaan Yatri Cafe, a low-cost food outlet offering tea for just Rs 10 and snacks like vada pav, coffee, samosas, and sweets at Rs 20.
This initiative ensures that passengers no longer have to shell out high prices for basic refreshments while waiting for their flights.
A Step Toward Affordable Air Travel
The cafe is part of the Udaan scheme—a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Civil Aviation that focuses on making air travel accessible and affordable. It was officially launched on Monday by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol.
According to the minister, the concept of Udaan Yatri Cafes has already been implemented successfully at Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad airports, and plans are underway to expand it to Mumbai Airport next.
Udaan Scheme’s Widespread Impact
More than 1.5 crore people have flown under the Udaan scheme in just the last two-and-a-half years. Pune Airport itself has become a major hub, handling 200 flights daily and serving nearly nine million passengers annually.
To support this growing demand, Pune has introduced a new 52,000 square metre terminal equipped with:
- 34 check-in desks
- 25 Digi Yatra kiosks
The older terminal will also undergo redevelopment to include 14 more check-in desks and expand capacity by 10–15 lakh passengers annually.
Cargo and Passenger Growth Highlights Airport’s Rise
Alongside passenger services, cargo operations at Pune Airport have grown by 8.45 percent, while passenger traffic has risen by 10.66 percent, showcasing the airport’s rapid transformation and the success of initiatives like the Udaan Yatri Cafe.
Final Note
The Udaan Yatri Cafe is more than just a food outlet—it represents the government’s push to ensure that even small conveniences like affordable refreshments are accessible to every flyer. Whether you are a frequent flyer or a first-time traveller, Pune Airport’s latest offering ensures comfort does not come at a steep price.
