Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam reignite their iconic magic after decades for the much-awaited gangster drama Thug Life.
The cinematic world went into a frenzy as the official trailer for Thug Life was unveiled on May 17, 2025. Marking a monumental reunion between Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam—38 years after their cult classic Nayakan (1987)—this action-packed gangster saga has already ignited high expectations.
A Power-Packed Reunion After Nearly 40 Years
Haasan steps into the shoes of Rangaraya Sakthivel Naickar, a dreaded gangster long thought dead. The trailer teases a riveting narrative where Naickar resurfaces to confront not just the underworld, but his estranged son—setting the stage for a fiery, emotional showdown. In true Mani Ratnam fashion, the storytelling is steeped in layered emotions, stylised visuals, and intense drama.
The two-minute trailer is a moody, high-voltage glimpse into a gritty world of loyalty, betrayal, legacy, and redemption. With Haasan in top form and Ratnam’s deft direction, Thug Life is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most anticipated films.
Star-Studded Cast and a Musical Legend at the Helm
Joining Kamal Haasan is a powerhouse ensemble that includes Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Sanya Malhotra, Joju George, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nassar, Ashok Selvan, Rohit Saraf, Vaiyapuri, and Abhirami. The casting not only adds depth but also enhances the film’s appeal across regions and languages, reinforcing its pan-Indian ambition.
The soundtrack, composed by the legendary AR Rahman, is already one of the most anticipated elements of the film. Rahman, who shares a long creative history with both Haasan and Ratnam, will headline the film’s grand audio launch on May 24 at Sairam College in Chennai, promising a live performance to remember.
Produced jointly by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies, Thug Life is set for a grand worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2025. The film will hit screens in multiple languages, reaching fans across India and beyond.
