One of the most anticipated smartphones of 2025 is the iPhone 17.
The standard (vanilla) iPhone 17 continues to garner the most attention, despite rumors of a new slim model that is likely to be called the iPhone 17 Air.
The standard iPhone model continues to satisfy the demands of the wider customer base, even though Apple usually introduces cutting-edge features through its Pro models.
Because the standard model of the iPhone 17 is so popular, a new leak about its display has garnered attention.
iPhone 17 Standard Model Steals the Spotlight Amid New Display Leak and Air Variant Rumors
Research analyst Ross Young predicts significant improvements to the iPhone 17’s display, potentially bringing it closer to rivals like Samsung and OnePlus in terms of quality.
It is anticipated that the iPhone 17’s display design will continue to feature the pill-shaped cutout for Face ID.
The iPhone 17’s OLED panel will be larger and have a faster refresh rate.
The current 6.1-inch display, which has been in use since the iPhone XR, will grow to 6.3 inches.
In the past, consumers seeking a small iPhone have found the 6.1-inch screen size appealing; Android companies such as OnePlus are now following suit.
App aspect ratios may be impacted by the iPhone 17’s display becoming the same size as the rumored iPhone 17 Pro due to the increase to 6.3 inches.
Larger screens are also anticipated for other iPhone 17 models:
- It’s possible that the iPhone 17 Air, which will replace the iPhone 16 Plus, will have a 6.5-inch screen.
- It is anticipated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch screen.
iPhone 17 to Feature 120Hz OLED Display, Replacing iPhone 16’s 60Hz Panel
Rumor has it that the iPhone 17 will replace the iPhone 16’s 60Hz display with an OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz.
With this update, scrolling and animations would be more fluid, similar to the 120Hz ProMotion display found in the iPhone 16 Pro.
Apple may purposefully restrict certain features of the iPhone 17’s panel in order to set it apart from the Pro models, even with the improvement.
Unlike the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 is not anticipated to have variable refresh rate technology on its display, which would reduce its energy efficiency. Competitors like Samsung and OnePlus already offer this feature.
