Karnataka’s landmark ‘Shakti’ scheme, which provides free bus rides for all women domiciled in the state, has been certified by the London Book of World Records for the highest number of free bus rides available by women as announced by the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday.

The Karnataka Chief Minister announced the achievement, noting that the state-run initiative is now an official world record holder.
Besides this, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has also been recognized by the London Book of World Records as the most award-winning road transport corporation in the world.
These recognitions holds a great significance as it milestones mark a significant step for public transport accessibility and women’s mobility in the state.
While celebrating this dual achievements, Siddaramaiah said, “Karnataka enters the global stage with two historic world records certified by the London Book of World Records.

Further adding “Our governance vision is rooted in social justice, women’s empowerment, and world-class public service. These recognitions reflect what inclusive and compassionate policymaking can achieve.”
Global Recognition For Karnataka & Focus On Empowering Women
In response to this, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar hailed this achievement on X calling it a “global recognition for Karnataka’s people-first governance!”
When it comes to the Shakti Scheme, it was launched by the Congress government after coming to power in 2023.
This scheme is part of one of five guarantee schemes aimed at empowering women and providing accessible public services across the state.
This scheme has enabled over 564 crore journeys by women, according to the state government.
KSRTC’s record of 464 awards since 1997 highlights its sustained excellence and commitment to service.
It is a “global recognition for Karnataka’s people-first governance!” said Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar while praising this recognition on social media.
It appears that the KSRTC’s achievements and the Shakti scheme’s success set benchmarks for other states and public transport bodies.
