The RDSO has successfully finished the trial run of the second Vande Bharat Sleeper rake.
The sleeper train, developed by BEML using ICF technology, is designed as a semi-high-speed option aimed at improving long-distance travel across India.
RDSO Completes Trials for BEML-Built Semi-High-Speed Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
During the trial phase, RDSO conducted Oscillation Trials and Emergency Braking Distance tests at different speeds on the 16-coach Prototype Sleeper Rake-2.
These tests were carried out across three railway zones: North Central Railway, West Central Railway, and Western Railway.
A senior railway official confirmed the completion of testing, saying, “RDSO has fully completed the trial run of the second Vande Bharat Sleeper rake.”
With the trials complete, the next focus is on approvals and preparing the train for its official launch.
Another senior official stated that the rake will be sent back to BEML so the company can make the corrections and adjustments identified during the trials.
The same official added, “It will be sent to BEML to carry out corrections identified during the trail run. Then it will be directed as per instructions of Railway Board.”
The RDSO tested the train at speeds up to 180 kmph to evaluate its technical performance, braking efficiency, stability, vibration levels, and the reliability of its mechanical and electrical systems.
4 New Vande Bharat Trains To Launch, Connecting 6 States: Check Routes
Earlier this month, we reported that Indian Railways (IR) is set to launch four new Vande Bharat Express trains, taking the total number of such services across India to 164. These new semi-high-speed trains aim to improve passenger convenience, connectivity, and comfort on key inter-state routes, strengthening the growing network of modern train services.
According to a senior railway official quoted by IndianExpress.com, the four newly notified Vande Bharat Express services will operate on the following routes:
KSR Bengaluru–Ernakulam
Firozpur Cantt–Delhi
Varanasi–Khajuraho
Lucknow–Saharanpur
These routes will connect major regional and economic hubs, reducing travel time and offering passengers a faster and more comfortable alternative to conventional trains. The new additions also align with Indian Railways’ plan to expand Vande Bharat services across key corridors in southern, northern, and central India.
