In a fresh twist, Raj Kushwaha — the alleged lover of Sonam Raghuvanshi and one of the five arrested for plotting the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, in Meghalaya — was present at the deceased’s funeral in Indore and was seen consoling the victim’s father, according to family members.
According to eyewitnesses, Raj had brought along several people with him to Raja’s funeral. On June 2, Raja’s body was discovered inside a gorge by the Meghalaya Police. Soon after, his body was brought to his hometown, Indore, for funeral.
The hunt for Sonam, who had been missing with Raja since May 23, finally ended on Monday when she surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, claiming she had been robbed and reached there in a near-unconscious state. She was soon handed over to the Meghalaya Police.
In a stunning twist of events, the Meghalaya Police on Monday claimed that Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj, had hired three contract killers — Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Raj Singh Kushwaha (21) — to kill Raja.
Recalling seeing Raja at Raj’s funeral, Lakshman Singh Rathore told news agency PTI: “When Raja’s body arrived here, Ms. Sonam’s family, whose home is in Govind Nagar Kharcha area, had arranged four-five vehicles for people to attend the funeral. Mr. Kushwaha was driving the four-wheeler in which I went, though we did not talk. Only after seeing his photograph in the media post his arrest, I recollected this episode.”
