At least seven to eight two wheelers were trapped after a large hoarding collapsed due to heavy rainfall and string winds in Maharashtra Pune on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the Sanaswadi area, near Wagholi, on Ahilyanagar Road in Pune. Fortunately, no one got injured in the collapse.

As per the videos circulating on social media platforms, a large hoarding can be seen lying on the ground near shops in what appears to be a very busy area. Bikes can be seen trapped under the structure and a motorcycle and a cycle were also lying on their side next to it.

The Pune Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and cleared the area.

Pune witnessed heavy rain on Tuesday leaving many parts of the city waterlogged. On Monday, the India Meteorological Department had issued an alert for some parts of Pune and other parts of Maharashtra, predicting “heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) at isolated places”.

In May last year, as many as 17 persons died and 74 others were injured after the illegal hoarding, measuring 120 feet x 120 feet in size, crashed onto a nearby petrol pump during a dust storm and unseasonal rains in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar.

The Justice Dilip Bhosale Commission, set up to investigate the matter, had submitted its report to the Maharashtra government on May 7. Advertising firm director Bhavesh Bhinde, the prime accused in the case, had been arrested, but was granted bail in October.
