A case has been registered against a BJP corporator and two others in a matter involving unauthorised social media circulation of a call recording between two women in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara, police said on Sunday.
The FIR was lodged after BJP councillor Anuj Patkar filed a police complaint against the accused, Vindo Malwi, saying his actions had brought disrepute to the party. Malwi, however, said that he shared the call recording on a WhatsApp group inadvertently.
According to police, the case was lodged after a complaint filed against the accused was probed, and it was found that three individuals, including Vinod Malwai, were found to be involved.
In his complaint, BJP councillor Anuj Patkar alleged that Malwi is a habitual offender who often makes objectionable posts on social media. He said that Malwi gets drunk at night and then shares random and meaningless posts online.
However, chief accused Vinod Malwi had a different story to tell. He said that he sent the recording in question inadvertently to a media group while sharing the details of the day’s work with his team. He said he deleted the recording after someone flagged it to him.
“I did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiment or defame anybody,” Malwi said while speaking to the media after a case was registered against him.
Further investigation into the matter is underway, police said.
