Gujarat is all set for grand ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ celebrations on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Friday (October 31).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a press conference in Patna on Thursday to give the details and has also written to his cabinet counterparts.

“It is a matter of immense joy and pride for us that this year the nation is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Patel dreamt of a united, strong, and prosperous India, which he realised through his remarkable leadership, vision, and determination. Inspired by his vision, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, presented the passionate pledge of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’; a vision that powerfully brings alive India’s eternal spirit of ‘unity in diversity’ in every state, language, culture, and tradition,” the Home Minister has written in his letter.

A ‘Unity Parade’ will be organised at the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on Friday, with participation from state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and NCC cadets, Shah has written.

“This year, tableaux from various states, union territories, and central armed police forces will also be part of the parade. On the eve of Unity Day, October 30, 2025, a theatrical performance based on Sardar Patel will be organised in Ekta Nagar. Additionally, from Unity Day (October 31, 2025) to Tribal Pride Day (November 1, 2025, to November 15, 2025), various activities will be organised in Ekta Nagar, in which all states and union territories will showcase their tourist destinations, monuments, cultural programmes, food stalls, handicrafts, and artisans,” the Home Minister has written.

He has requested his cabinet colleagues to provide appropriate instructions, guidance, and cooperation to the administration to celebrate October 31, 2025, as National Unity Day. A swearing-in ceremony may also be organised on the occasion of National Unity Day with a ‘Unity Day’ pledge.

To spread the message of national unity across the country, ‘Run for Unity’ may also be organised at appropriate places, with the cooperation of people from all sections of society, the Home Minister has written.

“It should be ensured that National Unity Day is celebrated with full enthusiasm, energy, and participation, so that the event takes the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ to new heights and makes the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel ji memorable as a grand, inspiring, and participatory celebration,” Amit Shah wrote.
