Having hosted the tournament entirely in 2022 and partly in 2023, Prime Volleyball League (PVL) returns to Hyderabad for 2025, with the full campaign set to be played at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium. Home side Hyderabad Black Hawks will get season four underway when it takes on defending champion Calicut Heroes on Thursday (October 2, 2025).

For the third successive season, PVL has added a new team to its roster. This year, Goa Guardians has joined the fray, where Indian cricketer K.L. Rahul is one of the owners. Highlighting this, Joy Bhattacharjya, PVL CEO, stated that it is one of the ways the league’s growth, in terms of interest from both investors and fans, can be measured. He also predicted an exciting, closely contested campaign this time around.

“It’s very special to come back to Hyderabad. Each season has seen teams evolve in terms of talent and strategy. This season should be the most closely contested one so far, and that means that fans could be in for a top-class viewing experience,” he said at the season-opening press conference.

He also opined that PVL stands out from every other league in the country for two reasons. The league’s close working relationship with the franchises, he stated, is why PVL, instead of losing teams like other leagues, is gaining them every year. “We do not operate in a way where one person gives orders. We take everybody in confidence, work with them and make it work.”

The other reason, according to Joy, is the efforts being taken by the franchises to grow the sport at the grassroots level. “Almost every one of the teams that you are dealing with today has academies, they have places where they are giving scholarships to players, they are trying to push the game in rural areas.”

He also said that the presence of experienced and international stars — like Olympic and FIVB World Cup gold medallist David Lee, the coach of the Bengaluru Torpedoes — will help the players grow professionally and personally.

Joy and Tuhin Mishra, CEO & Managing Director, Baseline Ventures, also announced that the PVL, which will be telecast live on the Sony Network in India, will be available to fans globally on YouTube. “We are entering a transformative phase for PVL. Our strategy this season is focused on delivering exceptional value to our partners and teams, ensuring a sustainable, world-class ecosystem for our athletes, and raising the bar for sports entertainment in the country,” Tuhin said.
