A resurgent Bengaluru FC stands in the way of Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s attempt to complete the Indian Super League grand double by adding the Cup to the League Shield which it annexed earlier in the season.
The final of the 11th edition comes to the Salt Lake Stadium by virtue of Bagan’s outstanding performance in the league stage. The host will try to replicate that form in the summit clash on Saturday.
The match will test Bagan’s dominance as BFC visits with the resolve of regaining the title it had won only once in the 2018-19 season.
The tourist has shown a spectacular display in the playoffs, convincingly outplaying previous champions Mumbai City FC and FC Goa.
BFC’s performance has been highlighted by an attack-oriented approach which has been carried out really well through a midfield diamond formation implemented by head coach Gerard Zaragoza.
The visitor will also want to avenge its loss (on penalties) against the same opponent in the 2022-23 campaign final.
The Bengaluru outfit’s innovative approach will definitely pose a challenge to the tactical efficiency of the MBSG head coach Jose Molina, who has infused a nice balance in attack and defence while securing a record 18 wins for his side.
Bagan, under Molina, has also remained unbeaten at home (winning 12 out of 13 matches).
With a capacity crowd of over 60,000 rooting for its victory, it will be interesting to see how Bagan utilises the home advantage against a determined BFC looking to regain the glory.
