Chennai Super Kings will have the services of most of its overseas players for its final two IPL league matches. As of now, only Jamie Overton is unavailable, considering he has been picked in England’s white-ball squad for the ODIs and T20Is against West Indies starting on May 29. Sam Curran, Dewald Brevis, Noor Ahmad, Matheesha Pathirana, and Devon Conway are expected to return to India, while the team hopes to get clarity on Rachin Ravindra’s availability by Thursday.
It is also understood that while head coach Stephen Fleming will be here, batting coach Michael Hussey and bowling consultant Eric Simons are not expected to travel.
The five-time champion has had a miserable year and was the first team to be eliminated in the fight for a Playoffs berth. With just three wins, CSK is lying last on the points table.
CSK’s remaining fixtures are an inconsequential tie against ninth-placed Rajasthan Royals (also eliminated) in Delhi on May 20 and the last game against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 25. The team is likely to reassemble in Delhi by May 18.
CSK won its previous outing against Kolkata Knight Riders in Eden Gardens – the last completed match before the league was paused due to border tensions between India and Pakistan.
The Super Kings have been giving youngsters in the squad chances once it became clear they wouldn’t qualify for the last four, and they will look to continue it in the remaining games as they attempt to build a strong unit for next season.
