The Executive Board (EB) of Commonwealth Sport on Wednesday (October 15, 2025) recommended Ahmedabad as the proposed host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.
Even though a press release said the final decision on this will be taken at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, it is likely to be a formality.
Ahmedabad, which is also in the race to bid for the 2036 Olympics, and Nigerian capital Abuja had submitted their proposals to host the 2030 Games.
Following a detailed process overseen by the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee, which assessed candidate cities against a wide range of criteria, Ahmedabad was chosen over Abuja.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Commonwealth Games Association India (CGAI) president, P.T. Usha, said, “The Games would not only showcase India’s world-class sporting and event capabilities, but also play a meaningful role in our journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”
