Suruchi Singh and Saurabh CHaudhary beat qualification toppers Yao Qianxun and Hu Kai (585) of China 17-9 to clinch the mixed air pistol gold in the World Cup in Lima, Peru, on Wednesday.
The Indian pair, which had shot 580 in qualification, made it to the gold match after being tied on the same score with the other Chinese team, by virtue of its better score of inner 10s — 20x to 17x.
While it was the third gold for the 18-year-old Suruchi in World Cups, after her individual gold in both Buenos Aires and Lima, it was the ninth career gold in World Cups for the 22-year-old Saurabh, an Olympic finalist, and a champion at the Asian Games, Youth Olympics and World juniors.
The second Indian team of Manu Bhaker and Ravinder Singh was beaten to the bronze by the Chinese 17-6.
In women’s skeet, Olympian Raiza Dhillon made the final but finished fifth. Raiza won the shoot-off 2-1 against Zoya Kravchenko of Kazakhstan for the last spot in the final, after having tied on 117.
In men’s skeet, Asian Games silver medallist, Anantjeet Singh Naruka shot 120 and missed the final by one point.
By dominating the skeet events, winning five of the six medals, USA jumped to the top of the medals table with two gold, two silver and a bronze. India was second with two gold, a silver and a bronze, while China followed with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
