Gujarat Titans made it three in a row at home and climbed to the top of the standings in IPL 2025 with an authoritative seven-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (April 19, 2025).

Jos Buttler’s scintillating knock, which included a brutal takedown of the in-form Mitchell Starc, was too hot to handle for Capitals.

The Englishman toyed with Starc’s yorkers, backing away and smearing the off side with four consecutive fours before pulling a short one to make it five boundaries in a row. That 20-run over left GT needing just 46 runs from the last five overs.

Sherfane Rutherford mistimed a rank full toss from Mukesh Kumar with 11 needed, and Starc was left to defend nine runs off the final over.

If there were any nerves, Rahul Tewatia shook them off with a six and a four, leaving Buttler stranded on 97.

Earlier, Capitals started off like the clappers, posting its season-best 73 runs in the PowerPlay, but stuttered at the death, eking out just 53 in the last five overs.

All of Delhi’s top six batters got off to starts, four of them struck thirties, but a big score evaded them.

Prasidh Krishna aced the hard lengths on a belter and Ishant Sharma mixed it up well to ensure Mohammed Siraj and Rashid Khan’s off days didn’t cost the host too much.

Both Prasidh and Ishant were cramping up under the scorching sun but turned the heat on the opposition. Prasidh nabbed Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam off consecutive deliveries in the 18th over, and Ishant sent Donovan Ferreira back in the next with a low full toss.

R. Sai Kishore was brought on only to bowl the final over, and the Tamil Nadu spinner’s ploy to keep the ball wide outside off-stump paid off as only nine runs came off the last six balls.

Kuldeep Yadav sneaked a boundary off the final ball to take Capitals past the 200-run mark, but that wasn’t enough.
