World table tennis championships | Yashaswini-Diya pair enters pre-quarterfinals


The Indian women’s doubles pair of Yashaswini Ghorpade and Diya Chitale entered the round-of-16, with a 6-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 win over the Singaporean duo of Zeng Jian and Ser Lin Qian in the World table tennis championships here on Monday.

However, the other Indian pair of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee lost to Germany’s Annet Kaufmann and Xiaona Shan 11-1, 13-11, 11-7 in the second round.

India’s campaign in mixed doubles came to an end in the second round after the ninth-seeded pair of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale went down tamely to the Korean duo of Oh Junsung and Kim Nayeong 11-8, 11-9, 11-2.

France’s Felix Lebrun, seeded six, scripted a facile 11-5, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 win over Manush Shah in the men’s singles second-round contest.

Women’s doubles: Yashaswini Ghorpade & Diya Chitale bt Zeng Jian & Ser Lin Qian (Sgp) 6-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9; Annet Kaufmann & Xiaona Shan (Ger) bt Ayhika Mukherjee & Sutirtha Mukherjee 11-1, 13-11, 11-7.

Mixed doubles: Oh Junsung & Kim Nayeong (Kor) bt Manush Shah & Diya Chitale 11-8, 11-9, 11-2.

Sunday’s result: Women: Singles: first round: Jia Nan Yuan (Fra) bt Yasashwini Ghorpade 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.
