India beat Malaysia 3-0 in the last Group-C league match in the Asia-Oceania Junior Davis Cup under-16 boys’ tennis tournament in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday.
It was India’s first win in the four-team league phase. Korea and Uzbekistan qualified for the quarterfinals from the group.
Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and China were the other teams to qualify for the quarterfinals. India will play Indonesia in the positional play-off match for the ninth to 16th spots.
The results (league): India bt Malaysia 3-0 (Prakaash Sarran bt Gareth Zhe 3-6, 6-3, 6-2; Tavish Pahwa bt Aqil Rahman 6-1, 6-0; Tavish & Prateek Sheoran bt Dzarif Azhar & Gareth Zhe 6-1, 6-2).
