In the recent Nintendo Direct event, the company finally announced the much-teased Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console. The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5 for $449.99. After over eight years, the Nintendo Switch console finally got its successor, and not just any successor. It comes with a large 1080p 7.9-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR support, magnetic Joy-Cons with a button to release them, and a modern design.
While new designs and features have been added, the Nintendo Switch 2 console also gets a plethora of new games. The Nintendo Switch 2 games are divided into three categories: Nintendo Switch 2 games, compatible Nintendo Switch games, and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games. In this guide, we will talk about all the announced and upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games. Let us jump right into it.
List of Nintendo Switch 2 games
The company has announced three categories: Nintendo Switch 2 games, compatible Nintendo Switch games, and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games. This takes out the question the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible. Everything about the Nintendo Switch 2 console
Nintendo Switch 2 is a big upgrade over its predecessor, not only in terms of design but also all the new features it has on offer. Let us quickly take a rundown of everything you need to know about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.
1. Redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers
Nintendo has given a major upgrade to its Joy-Con controllers and is calling them Joy-Con 2. Unlike the slide-rail system in the first Nintendo Switch used to attach the Joy-Con, the Joy-Con 2 controllers get magnetically attached to the sides of the Nintendo Switch 2 console. It gives a satisfying snap and also now includes mouse-like functionality.
Players can use the Joy-Con 2 to aim, steer, or navigate in supported games by simply sliding them on a plain surface, which was not previously possible. Plus, there is a new “C” button, which is used to activate the console’s chat features.
2. Bigger display and great sound
The new console comes with a 7.9-inch full-HD LCD screen, providing crisp visuals at 1080p resolution and HDR10 support. However, even after the big display, that hasn’t added much weight to the console. Thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate, supported games appear smoother and more lifelike. Nintendo has also added a spatial 3D sound system that delivers an impressive audio experience, letting users feel the action happening in the game in their surroundings.
3. Powerful upgrade under the hood
Nintendo Switch 2 comes with an upgraded chipset developed by NVIDIA for the console. Thanks to the upgraded CPU and GPU system, the console offers faster processing speeds, shorter loading times, and sharper visuals. The new console supports games up to 4K at 120 fps when docked and connected to a compatible display. The console also comes with a freely adjustable stand that allows you to view the game at a perfect viewing angle.
4. Real-time voice and video chat with GameChat
One of the standout features of the Nintendo Switch 2 console is the GameChat feature. This new online communication feature allows users to connect to up to 12 players and communicate with them via voice chat during gameplay, with support for video chat when a compatible camera is connected. The Nintendo Switch 2 console also allows up to 4 players to share their screens at once. GameChat can be easily accessed using the dedicated “C” button on the Joy-Con 2 and can be used without a Nintendo Switch Online membership until March 2026.
5. GameShare, backwards compatibility, and more
Nintendo has also added a new GameShare feature that allows players to share compatible games with friends who don’t own the title. Other players can hop onto multiplayer sessions, online or offline, without needing to purchase the game, making it more inclusive and spontaneous. Plus, users can use GameShare and GameChat together to enjoy unmatchable multiplayer gaming sessions.
Switch 2 also offers backward compatibility, meaning most Nintendo Switch games—both physical and digital—are compatible with the new console. You can also connect original accessories, such as the Nintendo Switch Pro and original Joy-Cons, with the Switch 2 wirelessly.
