Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport), operated by Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), has announced a set of new measures for passenger pick-up zones, effective December 8, 2025, to ensure a safer, more efficient, and organised arrival experience.

Handling over 130,000 passengers and 100,000 vehicles daily, BLR Airport is India’s third-largest and fastest-growing aviation hub. The increasing traffic volume has put significant pressure on its road and kerbside facilities, prompting the airport to implement operational changes to reduce congestion and improve overall movement.

A key component of the new plan is a lane segregation system, designed to enforce discipline and minimise unauthorised parking or prolonged waiting. Under the new system, private cars (white-board vehicles) can access the designated pick-up zones at Terminals 1 and 2 free of charge for up to eight minutes. Beyond this period, a fee of INR 150 will apply for 8–13 minutes of overstay, and INR 300 for 13–18 minutes. Vehicles exceeding 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station, with fines and towing charges applicable.

Commercial vehicles, including yellow-board taxis and electric cabs, must pick up passengers only from designated parking zones – P4 and P3 for Terminal 1, and P2 for Terminal 2 – with the first 10 minutes of parking free.

Hari Marar, MD & CEO, Bangalore International Airport Ltd., said, “With passenger traffic continuing to rise, especially during the travel season, it becomes essential to maintain discipline at pick-up zones, not as enforcement, but as a way to protect travellers, ensure orderly movement, and strengthen trust in the system. When passengers and cab operators follow the designated process, the experience becomes quicker, safer and more convenient for everyone involved.”

The airport has also noted an increase in unauthorised halts and roadside pick-ups, which have led to congestion and safety concerns. To address this, BLR Airport is reinforcing its #BeCabWise initiative – a campaign aimed at promoting safer, better-regulated pick-up practices through digital signage, staff assistance, and coordination with ride-hailing operators such as Uber, Ola, Quick Ride, OHM Electric Cabs, and WTI Cabs.

The initiative underscores BIAL’s ongoing focus on creating a congestion-free and passenger-friendly environment, supporting its commitment to world-class operational standards.
