Mumbai International Airport, the operator of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), has announced that both runways—RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32—will remain temporarily non-operational on 20 November 2025 from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs IST. The planned suspension forms part of CSMIA’s comprehensive annual post-monsoon maintenance programme designed to uphold safe, efficient, and reliable airside operations.
Recognised as one of the world’s busiest single-runway airports, CSMIA carries out detailed maintenance every year after the monsoon to ensure runway integrity and continued compliance with international aviation safety standards. The maintenance will include surface repairs, lighting checks, runway markings, and drainage inspections, all of which are critical to maintaining optimum operational conditions.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued well in advance, allowing airlines, ground handlers, and other stakeholders to recalibrate flight schedules and manpower planning. The airport operator initiated coordination with all relevant agencies six months prior to the scheduled work, minimising passenger inconvenience and ensuring continuity of service once the runways reopen.
“MIAL remains committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational excellence,” the company said in a statement. “This planned maintenance reinforces CSMIA’s proactive approach towards maintaining global best practices in airside management.”
Spread over 1,900 acres, CSMIA handled 55.12 million passengers in FY2024–25 and manages nearly 1,000 air traffic movements daily. The airport also operates one of India’s largest air cargo terminals, handling over 0.85 million metric tonnes of freight annually.
A joint venture between Adani Airport and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), MIAL continues to invest in safety, technology, and sustainability. CSMIA recently became the first airport in India and third globally to achieve Level 5 Airport Customer Experience accreditation from Airports Council International and has retained its position as the ‘Best Airport Over 40 Million Passengers’ in Asia-Pacific for eight consecutive years.
