Air New Zealand has launched a new chapter in its 85-year history with the debut of a redesigned uniform and the first of its upgraded 787-9 Dreamliners. These initiatives highlight the airline’s commitment to blending cultural heritage with customer-focused innovation.
The new uniform, designed by renowned New Zealand-born designer Emilia Wickstead, features bespoke prints by tā moko artist Te Rangitu Netana. Inspired by the cultural heritage of Aotearoa, the uniform is a symbol of national pride, blending modern style with traditional Māori motifs. The uniform will be worn by 6,000 Air New Zealand staff globally, with full rollout scheduled for 2026.
“This is more than just a uniform; it is a celebration of our people, our culture, and our values,” said Wickstead. “Designing this collection was a deeply personal project, aimed at creating a sense of pride for those who wear it.”
In addition to the new uniform, Air New Zealand has introduced its first fully retrofitted 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a significant enhancement in passenger experience. The redesigned cabin features Business Premier and Business Premier Luxe suites, upgraded Premium Economy seats, and larger screens in Economy. Enhanced digital capabilities, including Bluetooth connectivity and picture-in-picture entertainment, further elevate the travel experience.
“The new Dreamliner reflects our customers’ feedback – more comfort, better sleep, and advanced technology,” said Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran. “It is a true representation of our brand’s identity.”
Air New Zealand’s new uniform and Dreamliner reflect its continued focus on cultural representation, customer comfort, and design excellence, setting a new benchmark for the airline industry.
