Finnair has announced record-breaking flight capacity to Finnish Lapland for the upcoming winter season, offering increased frequencies to key northern destinations including Rovaniemi, Kittila, and Ivalo. The move reflects continued demand for Arctic travel experiences and is set to enhance connectivity to some of Finland’s most popular winter locations.
The additional services will be concentrated on high-demand travel days, particularly weekends, to accommodate the peak changeover patterns for rental cottages and holiday stays. Finnair’s enhanced schedule will run from December through March, aligning with the region’s busiest travel period.
“We are happy to be able to offer our customers even more comprehensive connections to all our Lapland destinations throughout the winter,” said Perttu Jolma, Vice President, Network at Finnair. “The additional flights will be focused especially on the high season from December to February, but we have also added flights in March, thus supporting the whole winter travel season.”
Rovaniemi, home of Santa Claus Village and a major draw for international tourists, will see up to 72 weekly flights—ten more than last year. On peak weekends, the route will operate up to 16 times on Saturdays and 14 on Sundays.
Kittila, a key gateway to popular ski resorts such as Levi and Yllas, will receive 41 weekly flights, seven more than in winter 2024. During the busiest travel days, Finnair will fly to Kittila up to eight times per day. Ivalo, the airline’s northernmost destination in Finland, will see up to 33 weekly flights, particularly boosted on Saturdays and Sundays.
Finnair is also increasing its service to Kuusamo in Eastern Finland, adding two Saturday flights and one additional Sunday frequency to meet rising interest in the snowy wilderness destination.
With these expansions, Finnair is reinforcing its position as a key carrier for winter tourism to northern Finland, as interest in Arctic travel continues to grow globally.
